P2138 and P2122 codes on Malibu

Asked by Nikki Jun 13, 2023 at 11:50 AM about the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu 2LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my car has been acting up for a few months
now and the mechanic can't seem to figure it out
as it is not consistent. In fact the codes do not
come on until I usually hit a pothole or a bump.
But when they do it says service traction and
ESC and gives the codes p2138 and p2122.
Which are both throttle position sensors. So I
just replaced the gas pedal today. The codes are
still there. I've already driven half an hour. As well
as let it idle and clear the code. Am I missing
something or is it something more?

Both codes refer to the throttle position sensor, or to the system. You need a proficient mechanic to find the problem rather than just replacing the TPS. Both codes refer to an electrical problem which could just be a defective wire or connection, even an electrical ground or a defect in the throttle body.
