Why did my air and cruise quit at the same time

I was driving along one day and my air
conditioner and cruise quit working properly at
the same time. A wrench symbol and engine
light came on. Air blows hot air. Cruise won't
work. Also, my transmission seems to be
slipping. any ideas?
