2010 Ford Fusion will not pass smog test and chokes and stalls at red lights

Asked by tootired Jan 26, 2015 at 09:48 AM about the 2010 Ford Fusion SEL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 fusion.  The car will not pass a smog test for nevada emissions.  This
car also chokes like the old 1960 - 1970 cars when you try to drive them before letting
them run for 10 minutes in the morning - then it stalls and takes about 2 tries to
restart. This stalling happens if I let the tank get to exactly 1/2 full which registers to
200 to E on the gauge.  I have replaced the solinoids, did the recalls on the throttle
boost, and the car's check engine light is still on and it still will not pass smog and the
stalling problem has gotten worse.  Anyone else having this problem or had it and if so
how much did you pay to fix this issue.  Or should I just dump it and go foreign on my
new car since I have til July to either fix or replace this car.

Couple things that would be helpful to know - how many miles on it, and have you scanned the trouble codes? Most all auto parts stores will scan codes for free. You may have something like a constricted catalytic converter and throwing O2 codes, but to answer your question you'll have to provide a little more info.

there are 54000 miles on the car. When this all started last year tere were 52000 miles on it.the trouble codes were 2 of them. One of them translated to solenoid on the Ford website so I bought the part solenoids 2 of them from ford at 50 per solenoid. I paid a mechanic 700 to install those parts. The other code was reading at the Throttle Body which was a recall issue at ford so I brought the car to ford and had the throttle body adjusted. Still the problem persists. I cannot recall the codes and the paperwork to all of this was taken by the Nevada DMV since I couldn't pass smog and they gave me a waiver for last year only since I spent 700 to try to fix the problem. But when the codes were on the fail paper from the DMV, when I looked them up and had a garage look them up they said the solenoid and the throttle body which is why I fixed those problems.
