Seems to be a common problem with the PT Cruisers. My daughter has one. It never overheated until I had timing belt/water pump changed. Then all of a sudden it will start slowly climbing toward hot after 30 minutes to an hour of driving. I've done a lot of research trying to figure this out (mainly because my daughter can't wait 4 or 5 days without a vehicle so Dodge/Chrysler can look at it). Everything seems to point towards a leaking head gasket, but I did a block (chemical-vapor) test and there is no leaking head gasket. I've done everything (replaced engine coolant temperature sensor, radiator cap, thermostat, coolant flush with new Chrysler HOAT coolant, pressure test on coolant system, etc) and I can't find the problem. I've read that many solved their problem with a new radiator. You can get one at AutoZone for $150 if you know how to swap them out. I don't think that's my problem because my old coolant wasn't that dirty, and I peeked inside the bottom of the radiator and it was fairly clean. Could be your problem, I don't know. Depends on if you want to roll the dice and try it. I reckon it would cost $400 or so to have a respectable mechanic do the radiator swap (radiator plus labor). As for me, I think I'm done with Daimler/Dodge/Chrysler products, and I've reached a limit on how much money I'm going to keep putting into this vehicle. It's about to get traded in for a new Honda Civic, and my daughter will get my wife's used SUV. This PT Cruiser has consumed enough of my time and money. Time for it to go. Best of luck to you on yours ...

I have the same problem out of my pt crusier. Replaced all that including the radiator and it still overheats and the family won't run on its own but it will run if you connect it to the battery. Wiring harness but you can't buy them at parts stores and I have being to 5 junkyards no luck they cut the wiring
