2009 mercury grand marquis engine tap on startup

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2009 mercury grand marquis ultimate edition has a
tapping sound on start up then as it idles down it goes
away for the most part. I've tried looking up anything of
relevance to this and have come up with nothing. I have
had 2 marquis (2000, and 2004) that never had this
problem but I had a 2009 crown vic that did the same noise
on start up. Just curious if I can make it go away or not?

My Ford 5.4 has always had a little bit of a knock since new when starting it up. It now has 217,000 miles on it and runs like new. Apparently nothing to worry about.

I bought my 08 Grand Marquis with 31,000 miles on it and it's always done that. It now has just over 100,000 miles on it and it's been fine. I agree, nothing to worry about. Hope that helps! Jim

Put some rislone or marvel mystery oil in the engine, let it warm up. Change the oil after a few days. you've got a sticky lifter, most likely.
