My 2009 Genesis 3.8 map light and dome lights do not work, once in a while one side of the map light comes on very dim.

I would have to say to look at the dome light switch, and the door jam switches and also check ground wires. But if the dome light switch is part of the headlight switch, may be a bad headlight switch. You just don't know until you start looking.
