musty smell when windshield washers used

Asked by cheri336 Jun 16, 2018 at 02:47 PM about the 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5 X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

how do I drain the fluid from the windshield washer reservoir?  it hardly ever rains here so I think the fluid is 10 years old by now.  it smells musty when I use it

I would pump it out using the washer pump. You could also siphon it out or use a turkey baster. Rinse out the reservoir with some mild bleach water and drain that out and then fill it with fresh fluid.
