Check engine light on, CC flashing, and Vehicle Dynamics Control off light on - Oh my!

Asked by Erin Apr 06, 2017 at 09:48 AM about the 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5 X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So, my check engine light is on, cruise control is blinking, and vehicle
dynamics control off is lit up. I drove through a large puddle this morning -
totally caught off guard. Was in 4th gear when I went through it. The car
basically revved when I was in it, switched to first gear and drove through it.
No more than a foot deep. There was an unpleasant smell (like when you
peel out) even though I didn't hit the accelerator hard. Car sounds totally fine,
so I'm hoping the lights will turn off after it gets a chance to dry out...
Thoughts?

Fluids look good. Code is P240, so I'm hoping a sensor got wet and it'll disappear in a couple days. Fingers crossed!

Try three restarts; if CEL still on then try an overnight battery disconnect; still on? Get a scanner to erase CEL and see if it recurs after two restarts. Google P240 if you feel like it. A foot of water shouldn't get into the motor nor trans, but if you haven't changed your ATF in a couple of years do it anyway.
