2009 Mitsibishi galant transmission slips and the car shutters at speeds above
40 mph when I accelerate. I checked the fluid and its full, but its brown, If I take
time to replace the filter and fluid will it solve this problem or is it too late and
needs to be rebuilt?

If a fluid/filter change helps it probably won't last long , slipping issues are never a good sign , Purging the trans fluid is not recommended
