Alternator replacement

Asked by GuruR2SCC Feb 14, 2020 at 07:49 PM about the 2008 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab 5.7L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am trying to replace my
alternator on my 2008 5.7. to get
to the top 2 bolts of the alternator
you first have to take two bolts off
of power steering pump and move
it out of the way. I got one bolt off
with no problem. The second is
another story. The pulley seems to
spin wer the edge of it is dead
center of the bolt. Tried swivels...
Extensions...... various sockets
through holes in power steering
pump just like the other bolt but
cannot get anything on bolt with
pulley in the way. Is thr a trick?
Will pully come off easily in place?
Appears to have Allen he'd screw
through pulley into pump. Why
would any manufacturer design
such a difficult way to do this!!
Hardest alternator I have ever
seen to deal with. Any
suggestions or any feedback from
anyone who have experienced this
before would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks!

Check out this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCYjXJF_mpo. The shop had to cut the one bolt and helicoil a new one in. But if you look at the posts under, one mentioned to swivel the pulley out of the way.

I'm doing the same thing I got the 2 bolts out of the power steering pump but it would not move far enough out of the way so I have to pull the radiator and use a pully pully to remove the pully to get the last bolt out once it was out i moved the power steering pump and put the altenator on within 5 min of removing it I tore up the pully in the process now I replacing the power steering pump as well because they donot just sell the pullys for them its a pain in the ass but the shop charges around 1000$ to do it
