2008 Kia Sorento Switching itself into 4Wheel Drive

We recently took my car on a road trip and it has been switching itself into 4
wheel drive on its own. Does anyone know how or why this is happening? Or
know how to fix it? It makes a loud Clunking noise and the tires get tight when it
happens. We have been having to switch 4 wheel drive on and then off to get it
to stop.

Just a guess but there may be a bad relay or a short in the 4WD switch.
