Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 08' Serento had a dead battery 3 morning in a row. I bought a new battery and when I went to change the battery the positive terminal wouldnt budge so i tried loosening the smaller bolts that hold this fuse. Anyways the metal connectors broke, nd i can not find the fuse.I went to 2 parts store that can npt find it. Called the dealership amd explained they said that that fuse should not be on an 08" i never put it there. What is it, what does it do? Oh yeah as soon as i tried to start the car without it the alarm went off.Had the car 7 years never even knew there was an alarm..lol Help

That is interesting that the dealer would not know what that is for. The whole set-up looks factory. I seen the word "alternator" inscribed on it, would this just be protecting a surge from or to the alternator? You will have to follow the wire to see where it goes. I have a suspicion it is the wire from the alternator to charge the battery???

Rowefast, It looks like the cable itself connects to the relay fuse box locates next to the battery.

Sounds like a main power lead to run that fuse box, on a Chevy they have in line fusible links in the main power lines to the fuse boxes...a fuse is to protect the circuit it is on so as to not damage the devices that are on that line in case of a short...maybe find something else of different design to put in?

there is a great video on youtube. I have a 2008 sorento EX. Looks like I have alternator overcharging. I had a dead battery which surprised me. I changed the battery. Had not problems for two months. Tonight after driving 2 hours in the rain, brake and battery warning lights come on and go out intermittently. Research says this means alternator for sure. I did not check the fuxe yet. Advanced auto parts has a 150 A replacement fuze that I read will work if that fuze is blown. I will check details in the sun tomorrow. I am guessing I will have to replace the alternator, and then check the fuze
