Check your fuses. You may also have a faulty VSS. Your vehicle's speed sensor has multiple purposes. It sends signals to the speedometer that indicate how fast your vehicle is traveling, it regulates the flow of fuel and ignition timing and it operates cruise control. Because the speed sensor affects the performance of several other systems on your vehicle, various signs may indicate it is not working.

Thank you...now stupid question...I have looked several times, do you happen to know which fuse it is? I can't find one labeled "Cruise Control".

It may not even have a fuse or relay. The only info I could find was that the ABS fuse will stop the cruise from working if you pull it. Not much info at all for the cruise control. Other people have looked for a fuse but can't find one either.

On my 2004 GMC 3500 Savana, it is #47 - a 25 amp fuse under the hood by the steering column and controls the windshield wipers and turn signals.

This worked for my 2008 Chevy Express 3500. Symptoms: Cruise lights on the steering wheel would light up but the cruise control would not set a speed when the 'set' button was pressed. No illumination of the indicator light on the dash. I changed the brake light switch and that fixed it. Note my brake lights WERE working with the defective brake light switch.
