My husband changed the front and rear heater core and
now it won't start or go in gear

without being there to check on the vehicle have him recheck his work and make sure all electrical connections are re-connected that we're removed.

The heater cores aren't going to cause that, so something else needs fixing. If he pulled the dash then you need to make sure the steering wheel/column shift are lined up as they were prior to the start of the repairs.
