Steering

Asked by GuruXZWTK Oct 03, 2018 at 05:55 PM about the 2008 Dodge RAM 1500 SXT RWD

Question type: General

This is Part 2 to my Ram 1500 single cab 3.7 truck. Whenever I make a
tight or sharp turn in either direction , once I turn the steering wheel
approximately 2/3 of the way into my turn , the steering wheel pulls
ITSELF sharply,  all the way , as far as the steering wheel turns, towards
whichever way I'm turning. If I let go of the steering wheel , my truck will
actually keep going around  & around  & around , until I manually grab
the wheel and turn it back toward center. The steering wheel is
supposed to automatically try to spring itself back towards the opposite
direction  from which it was turned ! I have to actually force my steering
wheel back from a sharp turn , it will try to SNAP itself back ! It only
happens when the steering wheel is turned about 2/3 of the way during
tight turns. And again,  the service technicians at the dodge dealership
where I purchased it , say everything is fine. They said they went over the
steering , suspension components , even had TWO different techs , just
for a fresh set of eyes they said,  in case one of them missed something,
& still day it's all fine , all normal!! It feels like the steering gear box has
an issue. Ansers please! Thanks

Good guess brother!!! I've seen that before and the steering gear box was bad on a 70's vintage plymouth.
