Recently did a head gasget replacement for my 2008 honda fit, runs great but will not run unless the code reader is hooked up

Did the work myself, car runs great and I made double sure all ground wires are connected. I now believe it Is a problem with the immobilizer? Hooking up the OBD reader brings up the little green key icon that does not appear when it's not hooked up.
