I have a 07 BMW 335i and have taken it to the dealer because I have a light sensor out I believe but also a few lose of power codes to long story short they told me to take it to a BMW dealer

I would just suck it up and take it to the dealer. By the time you purchase a decent code reader (like BavTech's cable and software - $200), you will have paid for the dealer visit. Also, if you are popping a code for a burnt out light, that is an easy swap out ($6 for a new bulb).
