Volvo S40 Clicking

Asked by Alfredo Jul 18, 2018 at 02:05 PM about the 2008 Volvo S40 2.4i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello,

So I've noticed a faint clicking sound while driving to work. It comes from the
front passenger side, and it is quite faint. It sounds as if something were
clicking on and off. It will go once, and then after a few seconds, it will click
again.

The clicking comes from behind the glove box it seems, and it starts
whenever I turn the A/C on. If I turn the A/C off and set it to fan only, it stops.
Turning it to recirculate doesn't do anything--the clicking continues.

Hi Alfredo . Funny enough , I had the problem in another brand vehicle , so maybe this can help . The clicking sound was made by a relay/fuse . Normally it is because the fuse is quite old , or not connecting properly . When someone is driving with you , ask them to try and trace the source of sound. If it does come from your relay/fuse box , just go over all to see that they are secure and installed tight . If sound persist , consider changing the relays.
