Longevity of a 2008 Xterra S 4WD

Asked by Rogergib Dec 11, 2016 at 10:13 AM about the 2008 Nissan Xterra S 4WD

Question type: General

I found a 2008 Xterra S 4WD to buy, with 135K miles, a good portion of them highway miles. This vehicle has had the same owner for the last 8 years. The car is running and sounding great, and is very solid. Besides regular maintenance, there has NOT been any repair work completed. My question is: Am I rolling the dice "too much" not expecting to have a major repair bill coming up son? My concerns are water pump/radiator/timing chain and cover/ transmission.
My thought on the Cross Contamination issue with these vehicles, is that if it has not happened by now, it should not happen. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks Mark, what you say makes sense! My plan is to get a Pre Purchase inspection at a Nissan dealership to check everything out. Fortunately, a Water Pump is not that expensive compared to other components. Do you (or others) feel I should not worry about the Cross Contamination issue, except to make sure the Nissan mechanic looks for evidence?
