Intermittent Hard Start

Asked by Melissa Sep 17, 2019 at 08:51 PM about the 2008 Jeep Liberty Sport 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

About once every 4-6 months my car doesn't start
the first turn of the key, but always cranks the 2nd
try Everything else works like the car is on but
engine doesn't turn over (lights, radio, etc.). It
doesn't click or make any noises, when I turn it it
feels just like any other time i start it. The other day
it took 4 tries before it started. Took it in and they
checked the charging system, the starter, the
alternator, the battery...all came back good. There
are no codes to read. Usually happens in the
morning. Any ideas?

Likely the ignition module. It takes a torx screwdriver to open your column. It's right below your turn signal. When you remove it, be sure to pull it straight out. There is a plastic pin that is easy to damage. Once it is removed also look at the cast piece that goes into it. that part is the actuator and tends to break.
