2.7 tensioner either bad or not installed properly?

Asked by Thomasan09 Jul 31, 2019 at 08:13 PM about the 2008 Dodge Magnum SXT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I changed my water pump and installed
everything back the way it was as well as the same
tensioner. The first time I installed it I took all the
oil out using the special tool to get it to reset. Once
I put it in there was a loud knocking nose coming
from that slot I noticed it would collapse so I took
it out again this time I took out the oil and sunk it in
oil then I press it so that it would activate sucking
in the oil so that it would have oil in it and not air. I
then installed it and now I'm getting the same
noise but faster. The tensioner was working before
so should I try resetting it again or do I need to buy
a new one. This is just frustrating.
