The airbag light came on in my 2008 Bettle convertible. I am broke! What would be a probable cause and a ballpark repair cost?

It usually is a sensor and depending on where you go it can be fairly in expensive or some may try to charge you a pile unfortunately, its best to get several quotes as mechanics can pray on people and stress that the bag could go off etc.. I buy alot of Audis & VWs and its quite common to see that light..

Thank you very much for you answer. I'm extrenmely dismayed at the electrecial/electronic problems I've experience with this car. I bought it in 2012 and I'm the second owner. It only had 15,000 miles which was the main reason I purchased it. The original owner and I have always made sure it was serviced regularly and on time through the Santa Barbara VW dealer. Since 2012 I have had to replace two power windows, the trunk latch, the fuel gage floater (? it advised of the amount of fuel in the tank and cost $600), not to mention the $500 - 40,000 mile tune-up. Now this! The car only has 40,000 miles on it and now this! I'm afraid to put the top down anymore for fear of that going out and not being able to put it up again. The mechanic says that the vehicle is 7 years old and it's not unusual for repairs to start occurring. Thoughts??
