How do you get key out of ignition on Chevy 2008 equinox after put in park

Apply brakes, put in park, shut engine off and remove key in that order. Works every time on my wife's Equinox. If it won't work that way then you may have a ignition tumbler getting ready to fail. Best have a shop look at it if nothing else works.
