Car won't start

Never noticed before, but now
car with lock icon comes on
then off, when trying to start
car. New battery 2 mos old,
had a new starter put in a
month ago, and now car
(2008 Chevrolet Cobalt)
doesn't want to start. Car
lights, radio come on and car
makes somewhat thumbing
sound, when starting. No fob,
all doors manual, but key has
a chip. I was told recently that
car needs a sensor. (Check
engine light comes on now
for about 2 weeks. Help!!

Have it scanned for trouble codes to see what's stored in the computer.
