has anyone had a driver's seat frame break?

Asked by RPearson Jul 10, 2013 at 05:27 PM about the 2008 Subaru Outback 2.5 XT Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the frame of the driver's seat in my 2008 Outback has just broken - 2 spot welds have
failed apparently - the car is 5 years old and has done only 45,000 miles - has anyone
else suffered this?

seen it on FORDS....welded the shell on both of them...but ripped from the floor? find a crafty welder who knows how to disassemble the upholstery so's it won't catch fire...alternatively you could take a trip to pick-N-pull and find another of the same color in better shape~...you might want to think about shedding a few pounds then~~

Try giving your dealer a call to see if there are any TSB's. It could be a known safety issue.

Most likely was just a fluke, anyone who welds or has used a spot welder can tell you not all welds are as good as they look all it takes is the wrong thing (too much dust or grit) geting between the mating surfaces of the weld and it wont hold as well as it should otherwise. It could also have just been an issue with the equipment.

Just happened to me on my 2009 legacy 3.0 R Dealer wants $1300 for new seat frame. I am looking for someone to weld it for me.

First time right before the manufacture warranty expired at 35,000 mile and now again 44,000 mile later. Note the dealer repaired the seat didn't replace the 1st time.

Just happened on my 2008 Forester. Going through options now. Neither Subaru nor dealers much help which is frustrating.

I would complain directly to Subaru of America and maybe get a lawyer. This is a safety issue which should put you at the top of the list ahead of all the poor saps with oil burning engines.
