The age of the battery or alternator is irrelevant aside from warranty or pro rated refund/exchange. A battery off the shelf can be a dud. Have both re tested, need to be above 12.8V and charging in the 14v range with correct amperage. There is generally a lid on top of the battery, pry it off and there will be holes that should be filled with liquid. If they are low, buy DISTILLED water and fill, then recharge your battery and retest.
