Timing belt

I was told by my mechanic that the timing belt has been
changed on this car at 69000 Miles I bought the car at
85,000. I also read recently that the timing belt can be
changed every hundred thousand miles instead of 60, and I
also recently read that 2008 and newer models have chains
instead of timing belts. Is this true?

I would follow the manufacturers suggested timing belt change recommendation. The manufacturer that designed and engineered your vehicle know much more about it than the internet know-it-alls do. If you decide to throw caution to the wind and run your timing belt longer than recommended, that would be your decision. I would refer to the owner's manual for service intervals and follow them.
