2008 Ford Escape XLT Stall Issue

Asked by ChrisX_ Oct 19, 2020 at 07:26 PM about the 2008 Ford Escape XLT V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Ford Escape XLT, V6 3.0L. I recently got it partly submerged in
water for about an hour (engine wouldnt start, was in water). Once pulled
out, engine started and it pushed lots of water out of my exhaust. However,
since then, the engine now as a hard start sometimes and often stalls out
when I'm not applying pressure to the gas pedal (but starts right back up
after). It's displaying codes P2197 and P2195 as well. Any idea what this is?

It also rough idles sometimes when there's no pressure applied to the gas
pedal, seeming like it wants to stall.

Did you complete an oil change after the water came out the exhaust to drain the rest of the water out? I would also flush the transmission fluid as well. P2197 and P2195 are your O2 sensors detecting a lean and out of range condition. Depending on how recently the water incident happened, and how long you have been driving the vehicle, you could have more damage than what you think. Are all the electrical plugs and components dried out?
