Whining noise only when the car gets warm, relative to speed NOT RPM

Asked by Taha Sep 17, 2019 at 12:14 PM about the 2008 Ford Escape XLT V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a whining noise coming from a 2008 Ford Escape V6 XLT. The car is
absolutely silent when I start driving in the morning. Only when I have driven
it for a few miles is when I start hearing this whining noise. It gets higher with
speed. I have also tried putting the car in neutral driving at 85 but the noise
seems to be relative to the speed of the car even when RPM is under 1k. If it
was bearing, I do not hear a change in noise on turning roads. Could it be
Belt Tensioner or Idler Pulley if the noise is not relative to RPM? Or could it
still be a bearing or may be brakes?

Sounds like a wheel bearing. Lift front of the car up and put it on drive and see if you can pin point it out. Rear will have to be manually rotated since it's front wheel drive.
