Aftermarket Air Intake?

A couple guys I know have basically rigged up their own air intakes and I'm considering doing the same on my Impala since it would be about 200 dollars cheaper. Basically taking out the stock intake and running some stainless steel pipe down by one of the vents in the bumper and using a K&N air filter on the end of the pipe. I'm not sure if this would work, but what I'm worried about is the sensors that are in the stock intake. I don't know if a programmer would allow me to overrun the sensors or what I could do. Thanks for any advice.

im not sure what sensors youre talking about but my guess would be an iat sensor and maf. have to leave both in the system. if youre rigging up your own setup just do some drilling and put the sensors back in where they were in the stock setup. but imo this is a waste of time....youre not going to see any gains worth while.

Take out stock air box, put cone filter on. Added power, not really. But it makes a nice sound when you get on it. Air intake mods arn't going to get you alot on a car that new unless you beef up the cam and exhaust with it. Maybe port the intake and heads. Put a decent muffler on it, maybe lower it, and do a little cone filter and you look and sound cool.
