I have just aquired a 2006 A4 turbo. The turbo seems to have shut down for a couple minutes while driving moderatly on a mountain hallway. Is this normal? It came back on. Is this a cool down?? Thanks

Are you sure the turbos shut down? Was it just a temporary loss of power? This generation A4 was prone to coil pack failure. There were two causes for this. A possible leak in the valve cover causes our oil to make the coil pack malfunction or the coil pack itself failed. Replacing the coil packs to the most current design alleviates the coil pack issue. A cool down when referring to turbos is the period after you have driven the car hard then you let it idle (cool-down) to let the oil circulate within the turbos. Oil that does not circulate when the engine is off is pretty much getting cooked by the hot turbos that get so hot they can glow.

have to concur loss of power not necessarily turbo malfunction, (although it could), not common. Coils are the first to need replacing (though usually not cheap). if it is, it will begin to happen more commonly over time, and a universal scan tool, (such as auto zone won't be able to recognize this...

Thanks for the info! That just saved me at least $100. When you say its not cheap how much are we talking about? The engine light comes on and goes off when car restarts. Is this because of the coil pack issue?

when you say comes on, you mean stays lit, or flashes, and what color (many people don't know the check engine light can change color due to severity), and flashing means a mis-fire is occuring right then
