How can you tell if your water is bad on a subaru outback 2000

Car is over heating,we replaced radiator and thermostat,how can you tell if the waterpump
is bad.

It's likely your head gaskets, check for leakage there. If your coolant and/or oil is milky, that's another sign, but overheating is the biggest sign to a bad head gasket.
