Did you try replacing one of the headlight bulbs? They can burn out first one goes out and you don't notice when the second one goes you notice, also could be headlight and dimmer switch. Unplug one headlight then probe the connection with a test lite, with the lights on One terminal will lite the test lite then hit the dimmer and the opposite wire will light the light. The black wire is ground.
