2002 Tahoe 4wd won't reverse

Asked by GuruNL5TY Oct 28, 2019 at 10:02 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our transmission is bad ; it will drive but first gear
is slow to change to 2nd gear and the reverse
doesn't work. Should we get a whole new
transmission or is it best to just rebuild the one
we have if possible?

Rebuilding will cost as much as a replacement, with the added "benefit" if taking longer. A used replacement (not rebuilt) is cheaper but obviously risky. Have you tried taking the vehicle to a transmission shop, and run on a diagnostic stand? It might be one or more dirty shift solenoids or a bad module preventing it from shifting. 200 or 300 for repairs might be better than 1500+ for another tranny.

Awesome! Will do. But Just to ensure that I am prepared is there a charge for a transmission diagnostics?
