How do I get rid of "Service 4WD" Message?

Asked by Ameena Jan 14, 2009 at 01:35 AM about the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Tahoe Z71. The front gear box for the 4wd had an oil leak and started making noises. The mechanic removed the 4WD gears and the shaft so I don't have 4WD anymore(I don't really need it). Now, I just want to get rid of the "service 4WD" message that is contantly displayed on the dashboard. Is there a way I can remove it? or at least make it show for a few seconds at startup only?

Nope. If the computer doesn't see the sensors in the front differential doing the right thing it will set that light. Until the problem is corrected, the light will be on.
