2005 ford expedition xlt won't go into gear

The part you need is (brake light gear shift) something I can't remember the name.. I changed one in my wife's sable.. here is a trick to get it out of park... foot on brake turn key to on position ..do not start car, shift to neutral, then start car.. your rear brakes lights will not function with the car started like this.. the part cost me $20
