Overheating 2006 Accord

Asked by CaseyJamesTPH Jan 28, 2021 at 11:14 AM about the 2006 Honda Accord EX V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We replaced the transmission on my 2006
Accord and now it is running a little too hit
before the fans kick on. Before pulling the
transmission we noticed water in the tranny
fluid and vice versa. We flushed the radiator
and replaced the tranny but is it gets almost
to the red before the fans kick on. When I
drove it cools down but when I stop it goes
up... The thermostat is fairly new but should I
replace it due to the leaks we had in the
tranny cooler? Any help would be great...

Buy a thermostat from the dealer , pay the $40** I went through a few cheap ones before learning . Anything electronic or with moving parts I get from the dealer , got sick of the junk from napy and auto zoos .

Ugh, when you initially found coolant and transmission fluid mixing in the first place, you should have replaced the radiator and flushed the transmission. When this happens the transmission cooler which is inside the radiator fails and the two fluids mix. So now you replaced the transmission and have the mixing going again. The reason you are overheating is the coolant is low due to the coolant migrating to the transmission and the trans is failing because you have coolant in it. So do what you should have done in the first place. Replace the radiator and flush the transmission ASAP multiple times and hope that you don't have to replace the trans again. Water and coolant swell the clutch packs. Good Luck!
