Changed alternator now idles low and dies

Asked by Lapointe541 Feb 09, 2019 at 07:54 PM about the 2003 Toyota Camry XLE V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 2003 V6 Toyota Camry that we changed
the alternator in. Car has new starter and one sign
and starts fine but now idles lower then the floor
and cuts out and dies. We checked battery
terminals and replaced one but this has not fixed
it... what could this be? Alternator belt is tight but
could it possibly be not tight enough to keep the
RPM's up?

Disconnecting the battery while servicing the engine is a good safety practice. In doing so, the computer looses some of it's memory and has to "relearn" stuff like idle speed, shift points, etcetera. So after a few drive cycles things should get back to normal. Just give it time.
