Question type: General

I bought my 1986  brand new. I drove it for about 3 years and put it in my fathers garage. Ive since giving the car to my daughter she just got pulled over for no front plate. the officer told her to put the plate on with wood screws on the front of the bumper. i was able to talk to the officer on the cell phone, and I told her when i bought the car it did not come with a front plate. she told me if it drives in calif. it has to have both plates one in the rear and one on the front. the car is in very good shape i would hate to screw anything in to the body of the car. the ford dealer told me there a couple of older cars that came with no front plates i should try to get a hold of them. please any advise would help.

Thank you.

Really stinks to have to put the plate on the front, but the laws changed requiring any car registered recently is required to have both. I know from experience (I used to work at a Toyota dealership) that we would bolt the front license plate directly on to the bumper. it seems like there isn't much choice in the matter anymore. I am not quite sure what the Ford dealer told you. I would go to, or call, the dmv and explain you situation and see if they can give you a clear answer on how to solve the problem. Best of luck. I hope you don't have to start shoving screws into the car.

lightGear. I did call DMV and I AM GETTING SCREWED, or the front bumper is... no way around it. Its the LAW. I was told to drive it until i get pulled over. pull it out from under the seat and tell them it just fell off. you'll save a $10.00 fine. Thanks. Jorge.
