If the car is in excellent condition , it is still not highly sought after . If you had a special edition car , such as the 1979 Indy Pace car edition , you could ask for more. The 1979-1993 vintage of Mustangs are still too new to be in high demand for collectors. The only cars in high demand I see in these years will be rare limited editions , such as the '79 Pace car, the 1984-86 SVO, any of the SVT Cobras ,the 1984 20th anniversary edition( other anniversary editions did not offer much ) $1000-2000 is probably average for your car , in good condition.

I know that it's 10 years later but I bought a 1980 Mustang Ghia for $1,800. in 2016 for my daughter as a graduation gift.. For a 1979 pace car and 1980 Ghia I paid $4,000.
