I need to replace the transmission for my '06 Outback. What are the compatibility issues?

I have an '06 2.5i Outback with a broken 5MT manual transmission. I'd
lik2013e to swap in either a newer revision ~2013-ish manual transmission
or ~'08-ish Legacy GT transmission. The bellhousing should match, right?

The Subaru parts website seems to indicate that the crown and pinion gears
are the same, so is the final drive ratio determined by the gearset adjacent to
the center differential, and can I just swap that from the old one to maintain
my final drive ratio?

If these assumptions are correct (and acknowledging the need to swap in a 6
speed shifter), would there be any other imposing complications?

My top preference would be to install a dual range transmission, but those
don't seem to be available outside of Australia. Am I wrong in that?

check opposedforces and see what ranges it gives you for your model.

I just checked, it says it's under construction but you just click the link next to it or go here: http://opposedforces.com/parts/ You can try navigating through that or ask for help on NASIOC or outback forums. I'd try to look into it but I'm not as familiar with the outbacks and the one MT section I went into brought up AT stuff :( bummer

Check with Lake Region Imports in ME to be sure. Not sure the turbo bellhousing matches the NA. Ensure rear end ratio is correct too. Bad sticks are rare. What happened?
