brake lights not working after gear shifter replaced

gear shifter got stuck on my daughters 07 escape after the shifter got stuck
in park her in laws got it fixed months ago but we just realized she has no
brake lights now and u can change gears without pressing the brake pedal or
key in the ignition????? ive tried the booster and changing the fuses and
bulbs but nothing. i know it has to do with a safety feature but i dont know
where to start i know a lot about vehicles work on my own if i can but im
stumped!!  and i cant afford to take it to a professional to figure it out!!!!

I would say the actuator at the shifter has something to do with it , get yer multi tester and find the problem then you'll know even more about vehicles . They may have let Gorilla Monsoon work on it so there's no telling what you'll find .

Probably damaged some wires while incorrectly installing the shifter.

Test your neutral safety switch and the parking brake "on" switch.

The shifter locking mechanism is controlled by the brake light switch. There's a solenoid that, on most vehicles, is deenergized when you step on the brake pedal to release the shifter. Since the brake lights are not working and the shifter won't lock I think the brake light switch is unplugged. Hope that helps! Jim
