I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt what purpose does the air filter and cabin air filter serve on the vehicle?

The air filter on your car keeps the dust ad dirt out of your engine and the cabin air filter does the same for the air you breath inside of it. If you did not have an air filter on your cars engine then the dirt and dust would get into it and cause it to wear out prematurely.
