07 cobalt over heat

I have a 07 Chevy cobalt Ls and yesterday my cars temp
shot up to 258 degrees and then it said cooling mode on.
After I shut my car off it will keep the fan on for 2 to 3
minutes then it shuts off when I starting car again and drive
somewhere my coolant goes right back to 258 degrees any
ideas what could be wrong.

Make sure the coolant level is full. Could be as simple as needing a thermostat. If you're not a do it yourselfer take it to a shop and have the cooling system serviced. They will flush and pressure test the system, install new coolant and maybe a new thermostat and pinpoint any other problems if there are any.
