Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On my 2007 5.3 engine Oil pressure is at 35 ksi when start engine cold and when warms
up  pressure drops  to around 6 ksi at idle, when running  holds around 28 ksi with 8
cylinders when deactivates to 4 cylinder goes up to 45 ksi

Check engine light comes on after engine warms up and stays on. It has been doing this
for around 40,000 miles. I changed oil pump about 18 months ago when first started

Is this ok/normal?

Anything I can do to increase oil pressure? I currently use 5W-30 oil

most 5.3 should run at about 40psi mayb 30 at lowest on idle, if ur turning 2k rpm on highway should be around the 50psi mark, u could have a bad seal at oil pump or something, power-train warranty from gm covers til 160k or 5yrs, u may get lucky, if you change oil to a diff viscosity you could run risk of running bearings dry especially since ur having oil pressure issues, i run 5w40 cj 4 rated heavy duty rotella t oil in my 5.3 gas ( yes its desiel rated oil)

the oil i run has a better additive package designed for heavier duty use, i use my truck for a truck, hauling, payload, higher rpm range, i find its less inclined to burning as well, you can try using it but i would recommend finding the root cause to ur oil pressure issue, sierra/silverado forums reali help with ideas and eliminating and narrowing down ur issues
