2007 Accord VP 2.4 with 230000 miles.

Asked by fjginer Sep 03, 2015 at 11:16 PM about the 2007 Honda Accord Value Package

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The accord consumes a quart of oil (Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W20 or 5W20)
between 5000 to 7000 miles.  I have been told that this is normal.

I have also been told to use a synthetic oil blend (5W30) to reduce or stop
the oil consumption.

The Accord runs well and has no engine hesitation at iddle or high speed.

Should I stick to the synthetic 0W20 or 5W20 oil or try other oil grades?

here is the thing the low weight old is basicaly what the dealer puts in cars that are new. as the car gets older the can wears down and oiling passages get bigger and there for the 5/30 in a 230000 mile motor is not think enough up grade to a 10W30 and a bottle of lucas and the oil consumption should go down.

5W30 is break in oil for the first 100000 miles and then it should be upgraded depending on how you drive the car.

Stick to 10/30 synthetic. I had a Honda Accord to 150,000 miles and it worked fine. By the way, good thing you have a 2007, see link below. The 2008 year was not good, be happy with your car. http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/Accord/2007/

By the way, a quart of oil in 5,000 miles is extremely good at your mileage. I'll bet you have the original transmission as well?
