knocking sound from my engine after the dealer change my timing belt

I had my water pump replaced and timing belt changed and when technician started
my vehicle a knocking sound on the passenger side occurred. The technician hooked
the computer up and the engine passes and no dash lights indicators. The technician
says it's not from the timing belt change b/c with my type of engine (interference) if the
belt was put on wrong it would cease my engine. My opinion is the technician still
could of caused the problem by not putting on the timing belt on 100% properly?

Ask your tech to locate the noise with a stethescope and take steps to eliminate possible causes. This is something a contientious tech would do naturally. Rather than simply deny causing it, he would explain the actual cause, and recommend the appropriate repair. If you had a noisy tensioner, let's say, he could upsell it with the job. He may not have evidence of it till he runs it with the covers off and isolates it. Ask for these steps in the diagnosis to continue till they find it.
Did you loose performance? While it is possible to be off a tooth on the belt ... my feeling is he is off on the timing ... some belts control not only the overhead cam but the timing ... he could have moved it just a little and ....knock, knock , knock
Above answers are great. Most reputable dealers if you express a concern with their repairs, will check it out with no charge. If not you may have to consult the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) for direction.
An old "cover your butt" trick some incompetent/inexperienced mechanics may use is once discovered they put the belt on wrong ,,, they may take it off and put it on right ,, then if it starts , swear they don't know what the noise is, The temptation that a new or trainee may have is not to deceive you but the fear of being reprimanded or worse
