Cover or Not to Cover

Asked by CRVTE02 Dec 27, 2015 at 11:49 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible RWD

Question type: General

I have a black 2002 Corvette Convertible that I keep garaged and covered.  Recently someone told me that there are different schools of thought on keeping cars garaged and covered,  Any thoughts ?  Thanks in advance.

You are correct in there being two schools of thought on that topic. If you have a daily driver, chances are it will have dirt or dust on it, so placing a cover on it may scratch the paint or chrome. If it is a weekend drive, or only special occasion use, a cover will keep dust and other happenings off the car. Then again, the type of cover matters also. Is it a water proof cover or water resistant that has a protective soft cloth under it to protect the paint? Some less expensive one are only cloth or God forbid, plastic that will rub and grind dust and dirt into the paint. I used on for several years and it kept my paint looking new. I only used a dust brush to stiffen it up and at times did a quick clean with the spray wash/wax spray. Takes at the most, 15 minutes to get it back to tip top shape. I have a 69 Corvette I re-did in 2002 and it still looks as good as the day it was painted. I'll send a picture with 13 year old paint.

I use two covers on my Jag in the garage to protect it from dings. I always wash it first though and wash my covers regularly as well.
