My 2007 Mercury Mariner will not stay running unless giving it gas. It starts great. What could it be?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Drove fine this morning and then when I started it again, it started running rough and turns off when my foot is off the gas.

It could be a few things, but lets start with some basics. Try seafoaming your vehicle. Buy a can of Seafoam. Suck up 1/2 the can into your engine with the engine's vacuum tube, pour the other 1/2 in your gas tank. There are plenty of videos on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OVIfkPpJ4Q . This couldn't hurt but depending on what is your actual problem there needs to be more information provided in time.

Mine was the throttle body. Spent 600 for a shop to tell me it was a transmission issue and they weren't even close. Throttle body was 80.
