Possible AC Control Module problem?

Local mechanic said I need a new ac control
module. Very expensive. Over $800 to replace.
Air only comes out in defrost or feet periodically
when going higher speeds or not at all. We live in
Texas heat. Any chance it could be something
Less expensive?  Help if you can. Thank you.

    control unit has been replaced 5 times. then resistor is replaced ac will blow cold for 4 or 5 days then stop and only blow hot, any ideas? thanks
